Shoes

I didn’t realize how important a good pair of shoes was until I got older. In grade school it was all about the colors, high school was the fad, and now….it’s all about comfort. Comfort not only feels good on the feet but the back, calves, and any other part of the anatomy from the waist down. Good shoes cost a little more, but they are worth it! I made the mistake of playing a tennis game in a cheap pair of shoes only once. I was so sore the next day I could hardly move.

This leads me to my next point; the importance of good children’s shoes. I didn’t really think a whole lot about what shoes my son wears as long as they are inexpensive; that wasn’t until a friend started talking to me about it. My son lives in sandals in the summer time. She commented to me one day how bad it is for kids to wear sandals, or any shoe for that matter, that don’t have good support. Children grow very fast. That is why it is important that your child wears good shoes with a lot of support. These are the times in their lives where their bones are developing. If a child wears shoes that have no arch support for the first ten years of their lives, it’s probably inevitable that the child will have flat feet. I don’t know that for a fact, but it does make sense. It is very difficult to buy good shoes because they are expensive and don’t last a child very long, believe me, I do understand. I just thought I’d pass that little bit of information along to my readers.

Class

What has happened to professional role models? Professional sports has really been on a downward spiral over the last ten years. When I was in elementary school there were tons of professional role models that I looked up to; it’s just not the same anymore. Back in the day you didn’t hear of players fighting fans, yelling profanities or head butting the referees, ending up in jail after a wild weekend, or biting a chunk out of someone’s ear. I realized there is a bad apple or two in every bunch but not at the extent that it is now. I’m not saying every professional athlete is bad, I’m just saying there are a lot more athlete’s in the news anymore because of poor decisions they have made.

Basketball

Basketball has been in my blood since I was old enough to hold a ball. I started playing organized basketball in 4th grade. I was pretty spoiled when it came to basketball. I lived in a small town with a lot of great athletes. Our team only lost five games my whole high school career. My senior year we went 27-1 and still didn’t win the state title. The only loss was our first game in the state tournament…we went on to take 3rd. Was a huge disappointment but a great experience!

My love for the Chicago Bulls goes way back. Back to the Phil Jackson, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, John Paxton, Horace Grant, and Bill Cartwright days. These guys are my heros! Basketball hasn’t been the same since then. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the game, but these guys brought something really special to the sport. They made history.
